The Art and Science of Spectrogram Editing for Dialogue
Using spectrogram editors in the world of dialogue editing can be a bit like finding patterns in the noise. There is both an art, and a science, to the language of information contained within. We will dive deep into the mysterious universal language underneath the words actors speak, to empower people at all levels of editing experience to be more efficient and effective in their craft.
From Pre to Post: The Dialogue’s Sonic Journey
Many of us in game development/production often deal with audio assets at one point of the pipeline, but don’t follow the entire journey of a game’s dialogue. With a focus on the recording/capturing process this talk aims to show what really happens behind the scenes, and behind the glass in a studio. This talk will take dialogue from script, to recording, to editorial and finally to implementation.
Audio Restoration Specialist
On February 3rd, 1944, during his basic training to become a Radioman in the navy during WWII, my Grandfather made some phonograph audio recordings to send back home to my grandmother, before they were married. While cleaning out his basement workshop after he passed away, I found these records under a pile of old 78's.
I've since digitized and restored the audio, clearing up signal noise from age, mold, and dust. Here is an extreme example of what audio cleanup/restoration could look like!

A volunteer game dev studio working on ‘Project: Home’, a narrative driven puzzle adventure game being developed with Unity and Wise. BBG wants to empower creatives and artists who are looking to break into the gaming industry, or want to boost their portfolio. We want to give people opportunities in the industry they might otherwise not have, and stop worrying about a financial return, but just make good games.

The Bob Baker Marionette Theater, founded by Bob Baker and Alton Wood in 1963, is the longest continuously running puppet theater in the United States. As a two-fold volunteer project; first I am helping build a digital database of the entire BBMT media library. Second, working with the production team I am establishing audio quality standards for all current/future shows. One of my favorite places in LA, if you have a chance, go see a show!!

Skywind is a total recreation of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Built from the ground up in the more modern Skyrim: Special Edition engine, Skywind brings modern graphics, assets, and sounds, a full cast of voice actors, and all the benefits of fifteen years of gaming improvements, while preserving the incredible charm of the original. As the VA lead for the project, I lead the team of dialogue editors/mixers, QC all final dialogue assets and keep track of over 180k lines of dialogue.
